Onshore Wind May Cause Greater Red Tide
Impacts To Area Beaches
Due to predicted onshore winds, Red Tide conditions may increase Red Tide effects at some St. Pete/Clearwater beaches over the weekend.
Impacts may include respiratory irritation and dead fish. The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County issued a health advisory for Red Tide on June 10, and it remains in effect. DOH-Pinellas has also distributed Red Tide warning and advisory signs to beach municipalities. A printable version can be found here.
Some St. Pete/Clearwater beaches may have minimal impacts. Residents and visitors are encouraged to check the water quality monitoring results and Respiratory Forecast Tool at www.pinellascounty.org/redtide. The forecast tool uses wind forecasts and K brevis cell counts to predict conditions at a specific beach on a given day. Current beach conditions can be found at BeachesUpdate.com.
For visitors who prefer a non-beach activity this weekend, we invite you to explore VisitStPeteClearwater.com for other destination highlights.
Residents should continue to report large fish kills (hundreds to thousands) through Pinellas County's reporting tool here.
